ANDREWS HALL
Brown University
Complete phased restoration of entire
dormitory and banquet facility including brick, stone, and slate
repairs, window replacement, new plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and
fire protection systems, and upgrade to existing elevators. Plan
changes found new locations for baths, lounges, and kitchens and
corrected egress deficiencies. New computer networking systems brought
standard
cable as well as fiber optic cable to each student room. Eight dormitory
rooms were converted to accessible rooms, and a former student cafeteria
was converted into a multi-purpose banquet facility with a new promenade
roof deck and a re-oriented entrance to a new Court.
Brown required that the $10 million
construction project not interfere with
student occupancy. The project was
divided into two thirteen week
construction summers and was turned
over ahead of schedule.
